100 Skydivers from 16 countries accomplished the new Canopy Formation World Record on
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007
As the sun rose over Lake Wales on the 21st of November, over 100 skydivers made their way to the loading area. With the planes awaiting echeloned with the sun rising behind them, the World Record Team began boarding the three Otters and two CASAs with high hopes. As the formation built, it was one of the most amazing things to behold. Over 100 people, all with the same goal - a new World Record.
As the first formation of the day built, it was only to be a 96 way. A world record, none the less, but not the original 100 way that everyone had come to accomplish! After reorganizing the formation and changing out canopies, the crew went out to the aircraft to give it one more go.
As the planes ascended over Lake Wales, excitement was in the air. After almost an hour of flight time, and the lead Otter coming close to running out of Oxygen, it was time to exit! The lead Otter let out the base, and from there, it built faster than any formation earlier. As we watched this bohemith build and fly across the sky - and get further into the distance - we could hear the radio calls being made for the fomation. As the final few canopies came to dock, the starburst call was made; however, during the countdown, the final dock was made to complete the formation!
Finally, after planning for the better part of a decade, a new World Record has been made!
After everyone safely landed out (of course), they were greeted with hugs and congratulations, for they have created the largest Canopy Formation ever!
